From the slim rubber molding production to the innovative multicomponent injection molding company


As a part of the award ceremony for the “AC² – Foundation, Growth, Innovation” initiative at the Aachen Coronation Hall, the Aachen Founders’ Region honored the three most promising business plans and growth strategies and a particularly innovative company on 06.06.2019. Emerging entrepreneurs and growth-oriented companies from the regions Aachen, Düren, Euskirchen and Heinsberg participated in the cross-industry business plan competitions. In the category “AC² – the growth initiative”, the Wegberger company SPT Production with its new strategic orientation conquered the third place.


Injection molding company on growth course


Erik Backes has been with SPT Production since 2012 and has taken over the position of Commercial Director in 2017. His goal right from the start: the strategic repositioning and restructuring of the injection molding supplier to ensure lasting growth with healthy growth for the company and to open up new markets. The company is rooted in the region and has many years of experience as an automotive supplier of molded gaskets. Originally, these were made of EPDM (rubber), in the course of the repositioning of plastic materials and combinations of rubber and plastic, so-called multi-component injection molded parts have been added. The offer is no longer geared to the automotive sector. Injection-molded components are also being offered for the construction and food industry. Increased expansion into additional markets is part of the realignment, as other sectors can also benefit from the many years of experience of the demanding automotive industry. According to the motto “From the slim rubber molding production to the innovative multi-component injection molding company for sealing moldings with the highest quality and efficiency”.

The growth initiative AC² of the Aachen region, Düren, Euskirchen and Heinsberg is aimed at small and medium-sized companies, regardless of their industry. She wants to strengthen these, which are seen as the basis for employment in the economic area. Each year, the competition starts with a wide range of lectures, free support from professional consultants and networking opportunities. After completion of the six-month competitive phase, the formulated growth plans will be evaluated by two reviewers from the AC² consultancy network. The most meaningful growth concepts then will be presented once again to a highcaliber jury, which selects the winners of the three growth prices of 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000 Euros. In addition to the competition, the partner institutions of the GründerRegion Aachen, Düren, Euskirchen, Heinsberg will continue to support the companies.
